Support the Simon’s Fund Event

Happy Holiday Season to the MGCA Family:

MGCA has four missions:

  • Business Networking
  • Community Awareness
  • Social
  • Local Fund Raising

MGCA has donated over $150,000 to Upper Dublin and area charities including Everybody’s Playground, Wylie’s Day, The Upper Dublin Library, the Upper Dublin Junior Athletic Association (UDJAA), Upper Dublin Baseball and Golden Generals Baseball, and many others.  The common denominator is that these groups are based and operate locally in the Upper Dublin area.  Further, MGCA encourages its membership to get involved and support these groups either by donating your time or by sponsoring events and contributing.

For 2017, one of the causes MGCA is supporting is Simon’s Fund. If you have attended a recent meeting, you have met and seen a presentation by Jill Florin, the Cause Marketing Director for Simon’s Fund and by Darrel Sudman, Simon’s father and one of the founders of the fund.  More information on Simon’s Fund and their mission can be found at www.simonsfund.org

Tragically, every year children die suddenly from sudden cardiac arrest.   These losses may be prevented by a simple ECG test which can identify something called “long QT syndrome”as well as other genetic heart defects.    Simon’s Fund is a nonprofit organization which sets up free screenings to check  children’s hearts and in turn, to potentially save lives.  To date, Simon’s Fund has screened over 14,000 kids and have changed over 100 lives, including one Upper Dublin Student.

This is not without a cost as each screening event costs $10,000.

On February 10th, 2017, there will be a fundraiser at Upper Dublin High School with a goal of raising $10,000 to fully fund a local screening event.  This fundraiser is organized by an Upper Dublin student.

MGCA is asking for your help to make this event a huge success.  Please see the information below for details on the different sponsorship levels. The Deadline for sponsorships is Dec 31st, 2016.

By being a sponsor for a great nonprofit there are benefits:

Dr Deborah Wheeler speaks at the February MGCA meeting

Upper Dublin Schools Superintendent Dr Deborah Wheeler was the featured speaker at the February 22 MGCA Networking lunch.  Dr Wheeler presented and informative talk outlining circumstances at the federal, state, and local levels pertaining to the reauthorized federal education mandate now known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2016 and the PA budget impasse, and their effects on the educational process for Upper Dublin.  She also took questions from a full room for 15 minutes.  Thank you Dr Wheeler.

This was the second time which Dr Wheeler made a presentation at an MGCA lunch, the prior one in February 2015.  She mentioned that at the first meeting she was still relatively new to the district and now, a year later, she feels that she has a greater understanding about the direction and needs of UD schools.
